Create an interactive, bi-directional link between the Autodesk Revit® project and Microsoft Excel spreadsheets using the innovative Graitec PowerPack tool Link to Excel.
Based on the concept of importing/exporting *.xls files, this feature allows users to synchronize data between Revit and an Excel table linked to a project model. The source data can either be an existing Revit schedule or a new list of parameters available from the project and defined by the user within the Link to Excel tool, which will later be editable as an Excel table.
Once the data is modified in Excel, the Link to Excel tool is used to dynamically import the amended data back into Revit and the schedules or parameter values will be updated reflecting the changes.
Note: If the schedule in Revit is customized in terms of appearance and merging, then the resulting Excel table will preserve the desired format from Revit.
Link to Excel allows the Revit user to choose the element/s and schedule/s from the Revit file to be linked to a Microsoft Excel table. The Add new link option reveals a series of methods in which such a dependency can be generated:
After the structure of the link is decided, the Export operation generates the Excel file, which can be opened directly from the Synchronization dialog.
The user will be able to edit, remove or add new columns to the table. The Excel file will appear as a direct link to the Revit project, with import/export options available and with its exact location on the disk.
Users can also save links as templates to be reused in other projects. The template is saved as an *.xls file containing the fields that form the header of the table, which can also be used to create a new link.
Note: If the source schedule from Revit has one of the following applied: filters, sorting, grouping, formulas, the resulting appearance will be preserved for the Excel spreadsheet which is generated.
This sample window schedule shows columns listing the height, the width and the mark of all the windows from a Revit Project. The mark number does not start from 1, so the user can edit this field in Excel to make the sequence go from 1 to 15.
Save the Excel table in the current state, go back to the Link to Excel Manager window in Revit and import the table back into the project. The schedule will keep the height and the width values and will synchronize the mark values, not only in the window schedule, but also in the whole model.
